Psyco Psycho is a 1960 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Janet Leigh, Anthony Perkins, John Gavin and Vera Miles.
Based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch (based on the real events of serial killer Ed Gein), it is one of the director’s most famous films, as well as his greatest commercial success, so much so that it has generated three sequels, one spin-off, one television series, a shot-for-shot remake, a documentary on the famous shower scene and many other derivative works. In addition, various references are also present in other media such as cartoons and comics, for example in The Simpsons or Dylan Dog.
In 1961 he was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Set Design. The same year Janet Leigh was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
In 1992 he was selected for conservation in the National Film Registry of the United States Library of Congress. In 1998 the American Film Institute placed it in eighteenth place in the ranking of the best one hundred US films of all time, while ten years later, in the updated list, it rose to fourteenth place.
